The Best Corporate Social Responsibility award was announced at the Annual Sligo Business Awards on Friday October 4th. Nominated for the award was SSE Airtricity, An Garda Siochana and LotusWorks. Each of the companies were commended for their efforts and initiatives in the local community.

Special congratulations to An Garda Siochana who scooped the award at the 7th Annual Sligo Business Awards for the creation of the Sligo/Leitrim Garda Facebook page. The award highlighted the growing awareness and commitment amongst businesses in the North West to CSR initiatives.

Marketing Director at LotusWorks, Emer Conroy, marked An Garda Siochanas win by saying congratulations “A massive well-done to An Garda Siochana on winning the CSR award in 2019 at the Sligo Business Awards, well-deserved and tremendous accolade for their team. We’re proud to see the hard work done within the community recognised and celebrated.  Special thanks to the Sligo Business Awards judges, we were delighted to be nominated and receive external acknowledgement.”

LotusWorks is an indigenous Irish engineering business with an international presence and employs 465 staff. The company’s headquarters is located in the Finisklin Business Park and a staff of forty support the wider LotusWorks organisation from Sligo. Giving back is a big part of culture at LotusWorks and is encouraged with all employees in Ireland and the US. LotusWorks has worked closely with the Irish Cancer Society, The North West Hospice, GOAL and The American Diabetes Association fundraising and volunteering over the years. LotusWorks were nominated by the Sligo Business Awards for their work creating the Finisklin Charity Cup.

In the spring of 2018, a team based at LotusWorks HQ in Sligo met and discussed organising an annual fund-raising event to support local charities. The team were supported by neighboring companies in the Finisklin area including Abbott, Amcor, HBS, Stiefel, Litec Moulding Limited, Voya, Ward Automation and ICU Medical. LotusWorks received generous sponsorship for the event from Diverse Printing, Connolly’s Motor Group, Sligo Rovers and Total Produce. Four referees also donated their time on the night of the event in June both years at the Showgrounds.

The Finisklin Charity Cup raised €3000 for the Maryville Homeless Shelter, located very close to the LotusWorks offices, and the run-down kitchen at the shelter was refurbished from the funds raised. In 2019, funds raised went to the North West hospice.  The Finisklin Charity cup will be in its third year in 2020 and it’s going from strength to strength and LotusWorks hopes to get more companies involved.
