The Transition Year students of Summerhill College take Engineering classes as part of their curriculum in 2018/19 so the LotusWorks workshop helped put their academic learning into practice with engineering related games and tasks.
Engineers week is run nationwide each year and it offers students an opportunity to get some insight into the world of Engineering. Speaking about the event LotusWorks Marketing Director Emer Conroy commented- “Engineering is diverse and offers a great range of professional opportunity. Engineers week allows companies like ours to meet with students nationwide and help them understand the broad range of career opportunities available after completing an engineering course at third level. We put a fun, informative workshop together and we added a little competiveness to keep it interesting, it’s always a great event and one we’re proud to support and we look forward to it annually”.
In Ireland, there are twenty Universities and Institutes of technology which currently offer Engineering degrees, there continues to be huge demand for engineering talent in all sectors in Ireland and internationally.
The schedule on the day included a short presentation providing some examples of what our engineering personnel do on a daily basis, a look at the range of roles within engineering and we had team activities for the students to help them engineer a new way of thinking.
Engineers Week celebrates the world of Engineering in Ireland and is coordinated by Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme and funded under the Science Foundation of Irelands Discover Programme Call. Now in its 13th year the week has gone from strength to strength promoting the importance of Engineering to young students and future engineers.
