Boiler/ Turbine Operator

Your Job Purpose

The Boiler operator monitors and operates the site utilities steam generation and distribution systems which are utilized on a number of critical systems distributed across the campus. The operator shall respond and restore boiler / steam plant following unplanned events such as power outages or system failures and coordinate and execute planned rotations of associated boiler & steam plant.

Your Responsibilities:

· Monitor and operate industrial boilers for site wide distribution at various delivery pressures including maintaining proper chemistry and records

· Support the operations pertaining to on-site power generation and co-gen with the power utility provider

· Management of return condensate/steam trap systems and ancillaries

· Taking corrective action for abnormal events or system failures

· Log keeping and record retention for systems including regulatory requirements Maintaining system performance within permitted levels (air, water, basin discharge)

· Performs plant rotations

· Coordination of planned outages

· Monitoring of systems via the site BMS to ensure environmental compliance and equipment operational parameters are maintained

· 1st response to alarm conditions related to electrical and steam generation including escalation where appropriate

· Reporting of issues and effective communication to operations management

· Troubleshooting of systems utilizing HMI historical trends and event data


· The successful candidate will have time served mechanical trades experience or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience

· Previous experience in operating and maintaining mechanical equipment & systems in large industrial applications with an emphasis on dual fuel boilers and steam generation & distribution

· An ability to work proactively as a member of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Proficient in MS Office and BMS applications

· Possesses a State of Connecticut, OE-2 Operating Stationary Engineer license or equivalent
